PANAMA’S TOURISM ENJOYED AN UNPRECEDENT 5-YEAR INCREASE. According to Liriola Pittí, General Manager of IPAT (Panama Tourism Bureau) in the last five years (1999-2004) the number of visitors to the country increased 40% or 3.4 million, over the previous five years 1994-1999.

COPA AIRLINES ANNOUNCES NON – STOP SERVICE BETWEEN NEW YORK AND PANAMA CITY. COPA Airlines announced that is beginning service from its Hub of the Americas in Panama City to New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport. Starting Thursday, June 17, 2004 the daily flights will leave New York at 6:00 am arriving Panama at 10:00am. Returning from Panama to New York, the flight will depart Panama City at 7:30p.m, arriving New York at 1:43a.m. Copa Airlines has one of the newest fleets of airships in the Americas, and will operate a Boeing 737 for its non-stop New York Panama flights.

THE PARADE OF 1,000 ” POLLERAS.” 

The Pollera is Panama’s folkloric
dress and the most coveted and awarded traditional costume in
Latin America. Including the Ms. Universe  “Best Folkloric Dress” award. It’s colorfulness, intricate hand made stitching and exquisite jewelry make these polleras unique, luxurious and a pride to own. Polleras take 8 months to a year to make and start at around $6,000 and go as high a $50,000.
On Sunday, June 6, the IPAT (Panama Tourism Bureau) hosted the second annual 1,000 Polleras Parade, which emphasized Panama’s rich costumes and folkloric traditions. Over 3,000 beautiful polleras and multicolored decorated floats adorned the historic streets of Panama City. While  the various groups of polleras gracefully danced through the boulevards they were ushered by the sounds and rhythms of their region This grand and majestic event culminated with horse drawn wagons and carriages all heading towards ATLAPA Convention Center for a spectacular fireworks display.

FOR THE FIFTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR THE ROB REPORT CHOSES THE TROPIC STAR LODGE AS THE BEST FISHING RESORT IN THE WORLD.
